There is a great deal of dishonesty in this particular corner of practice, so it is worth stating the standard plainly: you are told what is inside. Which verses, which yantra, which mantra it was consecrated with, and why that one was chosen for you. Nothing sealed and unexplained, and no suggestion that asking will weaken it.
That suggestion is itself the warning sign. A practitioner who says the contents must remain secret, that opening it brings harm, or that only they can renew it, is building dependence rather than offering protection. So is one who requires an immediate large payment for an urgent amulet. Both are common enough that many clients arrive already having paid for one.
Prepared honestly, a taweez or kavach is straightforward traditional practice. In Islamic usage it contains Quranic verses; in Vedic usage a yantra or bija mantra appropriate to the planet needing support.
