Why renewal involves reassessment
Amulets are renewed annually in traditional practice. The straightforward reason is physical — they are worn, they get wet, the contents degrade. The more substantial reason is that your situation changes, and protection prepared for one set of circumstances is not necessarily right for the next.
A kavach prepared during a Saturn period addresses different needs from one prepared while you are in a Jupiter dasha. One made during a legal dispute is not what someone needs a year later when the matter has settled and a child has been born. Renewing without reassessing simply reproduces last year's answer to a question that has changed.
So each renewal begins with a short review — what has happened over the year, what the protection was for, whether the difficulty has resolved, and where your chart has moved. This usually takes a few minutes and occasionally changes the recommendation entirely, including to the conclusion that you no longer need one.
That last outcome is worth stating. Where the situation the kavach was prepared for has genuinely passed, Master Vijay Ram will say so rather than prepare another. Annual renewal is maintenance, not a subscription, and a practitioner who never tells anyone they can stop is running the latter.

Yes. The review can be done by phone or video and the kavach prepared, consecrated and posted, with instructions for how to dispose of the old one respectfully.
It is disposed of respectfully rather than thrown out with household rubbish — traditionally in flowing water or by burial, and you are shown what suits your tradition. It is not kept alongside the new one.
