Gemstones are prescribed, not recommended generally
In Vedic practice a gemstone strengthens the planet it is associated with — ruby for the Sun, pearl for the Moon, red coral for Mars, emerald for Mercury, yellow sapphire for Jupiter, diamond for Venus, blue sapphire for Saturn, hessonite and cat's eye for Rahu and Ketu. The principle is straightforward. The application is not.
Strengthening a planet is only beneficial if that planet is a benefic for your ascendant. Strengthen a functional malefic and you amplify exactly the influence causing the trouble. This is why blue sapphire in particular has a reputation for going wrong: it is powerful, it is widely sold, and it suits a minority of charts.
A proper prescription therefore covers more than the stone. It specifies weight in carats or ratti, the metal it is set in, which finger it goes on, which day and hour to first wear it, and the mantra to energise it. It also specifies what to do if you notice adverse effects in the first weeks — which does happen, and which is why a trial period is often advised before buying anything expensive.
Master Vijay Ram does not sell gemstones. He tells you what to buy and leaves you to buy it, which removes the conflict of interest that makes so many gemstone recommendations unreliable. Numerology, where it is wanted, is offered alongside — the numbers in a name and birth date, and their bearing on a business name or a signature.

A clear, caring path
How a gemstone is prescribed
A gemstone prescription establishes which planets are benefic for your ascendant, assesses whether a stone is actually needed and at what strength, then specifies the full prescription — stone, weight, metal, finger and the day to begin. Numerology is read alongside it.
Establish benefics for your ascendant
Which planets are functional benefics for your rising sign, and which are malefics that should never be strengthened. This determines what is even a candidate.
Assess strength and need
The dignity and condition of the candidate planets, and the dasha currently running, decide which stone would genuinely help now rather than in theory.
Specify the full prescription
Stone, weight, metal, finger, the day and hour to begin and the energising mantra — with clear guidance on what to watch for in the first weeks.

What a gemstone prescription must specify
A recommendation missing any of these is incomplete. Wearing the wrong stone, or the right stone wrongly, is not neutral.
| Element | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The stone itself | Must correspond to a planet that is genuinely benefic for your ascendant, not merely prominent |
| Weight | Too light does nothing; too heavy can overstate the planet's influence |
| Metal | The setting affects contact and is traditionally specified per stone |
| Finger and hand | Each planet has its finger; the prescription is not interchangeable |
| Day and time to begin | Wearing is traditionally started on the planet's own day, after a specific preparation |

When to have this checked
Particularly before spending money on a stone.
- You have been told to wear a stone and want a second opinion
- A jeweller recommended a gemstone without seeing your chart
- You are wearing something already and are unsure it suits you
- You have been quoted a large sum for a blue sapphire
- Things worsened after you began wearing a stone
- You want a numerology check on a business or brand name
